Shakti Dance is rooted in the science of Kundalini Yoga and is fundamentally a technology for heightening awareness and raising consciousness. Shakti Dance takes us on a journey through a myriad of moving forms and styles, rhythms and frequencies, feelings and sensations awakening us to the basic qualities and energies of existence.
A class usually begins with Shakti Stretching where we stay on the mats on the floor and gently stretch the body using flowing yoga positions. This is followed by standing exercises where we increase the prana and oxygen flow in the body and stretch in new ways. The next stage would be to dance freely as we follow our natural way of moving without judgement or control. After a relaxation, we dance as a group with a mantric choreography or a celestial communication to bring the energies back into harmony. |
Over time the practise leads to a healthier and fitter body. You develop a deeper sense of awareness of your physical body, as well as extending your range of movement both physically and energetically. It releases tension and emotional patterns and brings inner harmony, strengthening the meditative mind.

People come to Shakti Dance from all different backgrounds and for many different reasons. Some people have no experience of yoga but are trained dancers, other people are yogis but have no dance training and some people have no training in either yoga or dance. It is not necessary to have previous experience of yoga or dance, just come along to a class or workshop, relax and experience!
