Kundalini Yoga as taught by Yogi Bhajan
Yogi Bhajan
| "The process of self-healing is the privilege of every human being. Self-healing is not a miracle, nor is it a question of being able to do something that most people can't. Self-healing is a process that occurs through the relationship between the physical and the infinite power of the soul. It is a contract, a union - that is the science of Kundalini Yoga." | ![]() |
Yogi Bhajan, Master of Kundalini Yoga, arrived in the United States from India in 1969 with a stated purpose: "I have come to create Teachers, not to gather disciples." He spent the next 35 years travelling extensively to teach Kundalini Yoga, the Yoga of Awareness and of the Householder.
Kundalini Yoga
The practise of Kundalini Yoga, as taught by Yogi Bhajan, works with kriyas (physical exercises), pranayama (breath control), meditation, mantras (sound healing), relaxation, mudras and philosophy. Working with all these different elements simultaneously creates a very powerful healing effect. The practise works particularly to strengthen the glandular system, which is the guardian of our health and the nervous system, which plays an essential role in the health of our body and in the way that we relate to the world.
Attendance at one class a week can bring many changes to your health and the way that you see the world. Some people notice their bodies becoming more toned and the loss of excess weight, others experience feelings of lightness and clarity with more of a sense of purpose and direction in their lives. Others experience a deep sense of peace and find that this begins to enter into their everyday lives.
Deeper practise through attendance at workshops, retreats, teacher training or daily practise can bring very deep states of meditation, relaxation and peace as well as a healthy body and clarity about your life's purpose.

"I felt safe and held by Ishwara at her Kundalini Yoga Workshop. This allowed me to work though some profound blocked emotions and come out the other end smiling." a quote from Jaynie Ralph from The Holistic Network

Much of our behaviour is not spontaneous but is a repeat of old patterns that often do not serve us. These patterns repeat because they are held in the subconscious mind. Many of the meditations that we use work directly on cleansing the subconscious mind of these habitual patterns creating a life where we are able to feel free and live much more spontaneously.
With regards to the breath, Yogic Philosophy tells us that everything begins with the breath. Therefore, working with the breath has a very powerful impact on our lives.
The positive vibration of mantras impacts us at the very core of our being. In the same way that listening to different types of music can make us feel sad or lively, mantras have a healing effect on the body. Quantum Physics and Ancient Yogic Philosophy are in agreement that matter and energy are interchangeable, it all depends on the level of vibration. The mantras work to change the vibration of our body so that a much lighter vibration develops. This leads to a healthier mind and body.
The wonderful thing about Kundalini Yoga is that it has something for everyone! Try something new today, give yourself a new experience! If you've never been to a Kundalini Yoga class and you're reading this, then now is the time to try out a class, workshop or retreat.
